Katherine’s passion as a designer is texture - the aesthetic interest that texture, through stitch and manipulation brings to a fabric and its tactile nature. She enjoys the process of building up or cutting away layers to create something new, and likes to use unusual materials to create things that at first don’t seem possible, making the original materials almost unrecognisable. She is fascinated by light, and how it can transform a design depending on the direction of the light source - a completely different (but equally pleasing) visual effect can often be created by holding a piece up to the light. It was a logical step to turn her fabrics into lampshades and window blinds.
