Dawn Bache is a designer/maker in lampworked glass. She makes glass beads, which are constructed by heating glass rods in a flame and then winding the molten glass onto metal mandrels. Working with hot glass is like painting with three-dimensional watercolours. The colours are not true until they cool and there is a fascinating unpredictability in the process. Each bead is individually made and jewellery is designed which complements the colours and forms. Sterling silver pieces are also incorporated which work well with the translucency of the glass. She experiments with colours in the flame but her inspiration also comes from twentieth century ceramics and the translucency of objects semi-obscured and floating in water.
