Sonje Hibbert is a ceramic artist who is influenced by extensive travelling abroad. By photographing and painting the people of India, and the Far East she has collected a multitude of resources from which to draw upon. Her work fuses her fascination of Eastern Cultures and traditional W.European styles. The sensual figurative sculptures whilst being tactile and often humorous, on a more serious note attempt to portray the clichés that surround the Western perceptions of the female form. Her fascination with identity is reflected in the collectives of heads, each made with metal inserted into the clay during making. A grogged stoneware is preferred, with plaster moulds and hand building techniques being used to make each piece. All pieces are bisque fired to 1100ºC
