Carolyn Corfield is a sculptor currently producing original ceramics with an emphasis on the figurative form. Using terracotta, porcelain and stoneware clays, her sculpture is hand built using slab, coil and pinch methods of construction. She is presently working on life size figurative pieces, wall mounted or free standing. However, her range includes smaller works. Some large pieces remain unglazed which encourages lichen growth in an outdoor environment where they sit comfortably in the landscape. Colourful copper and turquoise finishes are achieved through reduction firing while certain sculptures are multi-glazed to create an encrusted surface. embracing such visual tactile elements , her work alludes to classical and primitive culture yet can also incorporate contemporary themes.
